At Kindred Family Commonwealth, we believe in the power of God, family, country, community, and mentorship to shape the next generation. We are a community of dedicated families striving to instill wisdom, strength of character, and a love of learning in our children. Kindred families and mentors work hard to cultivate an environment where scholars develop into principled individuals prepared to fulfill their God-given missions. Our mission is to foster a Christ-centered community where families work together to develop noble character, strong scholarship and leadership through mentoring, self-governance, and service.
Why join our community?
- Deep Friendships – Build lasting relationships with like-minded families.
- Strong Moral Foundation – A Christ-centered approach to education.
- Mentorship Opportunities – Learn from and become great mentors.
- Leadership Education - We are teaching our kids how to think and to develop a life-long love of learning.
- Self-Governance – Families maintain sovereignty over their children’s education.
How our school works...
- One-day-a-week Core Program – Families meet to mentor and learn together weekly.
- Mentor-Led Learning – Parents are trained for specific projects and then mentor the classes, while being supported by a strong community. Each class has 2 deep adult supervision. This is not a drop-off program, we create opportunities for all to mentor and be mentored.
- Project-Based Learning – Scholars engage in hands-on, immersive experiences that develop critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity. Through meaningful projects—such as theatrical performances, debates, historical reenactments, and leadership initiatives—students apply their knowledge in real-world contexts, strengthening bonds with mentors and peers while taking ownership of their learning.
What defines our community culture-
- Activities for Family and Youth - Events, field trips, and celebrations that foster connection and shared experiences together, and organizing opportunities that allow families to serve one another and the broader community.
- Horizon: Monthly activities for scholars age 12+
- Hearth + Horizon: Family activities will be held approximately every other month
- These activities are designed to build a strong community culture- not just for the children, but for the entire family.
- Kindred Culture- A 45 minute class after lunch for scholars 12+ where they will play, dance, learn, read, and grow together.
- Parent Classes and Outings – Building relationships and fostering a culture of lifelong learning within the entire family unit.
- Hearthside: Weekly classes for the enrichment, training, and support of parents
- Gathering Table: Activities will be held approximately every other month, providing an opportunity for husbands and wives to connect with the community together.
Thomas Jefferson Education (TJEd) is a method based on the "7 Keys of Great Teaching", emphasizing classics, mentoring, and inspiring students to take ownership of their education.
Leadership Education (LEMI) is the broader philosophy behind TJEd, focusing on developing individuals who think, lead, and contribute to society through personalized learning, character growth, and real-world application.
Project-Based Learning is a hands-on approach within Leadership Education where scholars apply knowledge through meaningful projects—such as performances, debates, historical reenactments, and service initiatives—developing critical thinking and teamwork in real-world contexts.
