Junior Program Overview

Our Junior Program exists to support parents as they mentor projects and guide their children through the Phases of Learning, while fostering strong relationships, a thriving community, and a vision for future scholars. Each family is required to have one parent present during classes and to contribute by mentoring a scholar project or assisting in the junior program in some way.

Our Junior Program follows the House of the Book framework, where young learners develop foundational thinking skills through:

  • Right vs. Wrong – Understanding moral principles and decision-making
  • Good vs. Bad – Recognizing virtuous behavior and consequences
  • True vs. False – Learning discernment through stories, discussion, and discovery
  • Work & Play – Balancing responsibility with joyful exploration

Falling in Love with Learning – Nurturing curiosity through hands-on experiences, literature, and interactive activities (Montessori-inspired)

Members of Kindred subscribe to several harmonious philosophies such as Thomas Jefferson Education, the Well-Educated Heart, Montessori, House of the Book, and Charlotte Mason.

The Junior Program exists to support Kindred parents in their homeschooling by giving children the opportunity to explore the world around them. Our philosophy is focused on goodness, truth, and beauty in our junior's program. A love of learning will be cultivated through imaginary and sensory play, art, fun science experiments, reading stories, singing songs, and small and large motor activities.

During the “core,” or “heart” years, our main focus is helping the child foster a love of learning and develop an imagination, sense of duty, right vs. wrong, personal responsibility,  etc.  As these principles are correctly applied, as the child grows into the scholar phase they naturally begin to desire more scholarly opportunities. This process happens beautifully and naturally as our youth progress throughout our Juniors to  the Scholar Program at Kindred Family Commonwealth.

These classes offer Core and Love of Learning children an opportunity to learn, play, build friendships, and prepare for the next phase of learning. Classes are available throughout the year to support parents mentoring in scholar projects and attending Hearthside.
