Introduction

At Kindred Family Commonwealth, we are dedicated to nurturing scholars, strengthening families, and building a thriving community of lifelong learners. Teaching and mentoring is rooted in timeless, principle-based education inspired by A Thomas Jefferson Education (TJEd) by Oliver DeMille. This philosophy encourages self-directed learning, classical studies, and the pursuit of truth through a Liberal Arts education.

We also incorporate the Leadership Education Mentoring Institute (LEMI) methodology, ensuring that our scholars are mentored by trained parents who lead by example.

Our project-based learning model follows the

natural Phases of Learning, including:

Core Phase – Learning fundamental principles

of right and wrong, work and play

Love of Learning Phase – Developing curiosity

 and a passion for discovery

Scholar Phase – Advancing reasoning, discipline, and expertise through Practice, Apprentice, and Self-Directed learning.

Kindred Family Commonwealth serves learners from early childhood through adulthood, with a primary focus on Scholar Phase (ages 12-18). As students mature, they thrive in a dynamic, interactive learning environment, where they engage in challenging studies, hands-on experiences, and meaningful leadership training.

Our scholars develop real-world skills that prepare them for lifelong learning, leadership, and service, including:
Critical Thinking
Public Speaking
Effective Writing
Respectful Debate
Scientific Reasoning
Self-Reliance

We incorporate a variety of learning environments to provide a rich and immersive educational experience, including:
Classic Literature & Texts
Writing & Rhetoric
Simulations & Socratic Discussion
Lectures & Public Speaking
Scientific & Field Experience

A Community of Families & Mentors

Ours is not a drop-off program. Parents play an active role in mentoring, volunteering, and modeling scholarly behavior. By participating in their children’s education, parents lead by example, foster and participate in a culture of growth,

and strengthen family and community bonds.

As students progress through structured Scholar Projects, they emerge as self-governing leaders, lifelong learners, and individuals prepared to make a meaningful impact in their communities.

Join us at Kindred Family Commonwealth, where families learn together, scholars discover their personal mission, and education is a journey of wisdom, character, and purpose.

Parent Mentors

In our commonwealth, parents are more than a support system—they are mentors, modeling the scholarly journey alongside their children and those whom they teach. Before mentoring in a project, parents train, immersing themselves in the same principles of Leadership Education that we ask of scholars. By studying, leading projects, and embracing difficult things first, they set the example of lifelong learning. This shared commitment strengthens our community, proving that true education is not just taught, but lived.

Scholar Program

Our scholar program and  community are built on mentorship, classics-based education, and project based learning to develop critical thinkers, principled leaders, and lifelong learners. We follow the TJEd Phases of Learning, ensuring that students progress from foundational knowledge to deep scholarship and leadership. Once a scholar has attended all of the projects that are offered through Kindred, they will have acquired a true leadership education.

Junior Program

Our Junior Program exists to support parents as they mentor projects and guide their children through the Phases of Learning, while fostering strong relationships, a thriving community, and a vision for future scholars. We work to implement project based learning in our junior program, as it is an immersive way to learn and to take deep dives into various engaging topics.

This program exists to enrich our tiny explorer's lives.
